Warner Bros Discovery announced that HBO Max will soon be merged with Discovery+. At least in the US, HBO Max has a rich catalog of all the movies and TV series from the HBO and Warner brands. By 2021, Warner Bros Discovery had decided to make all of its flagship films available on HBO Max at the same time as the theater release.
HBO Max is set to debut in many European countries in 2022. Excluding Italy, where many of the rights to HBO series and films are still tied to an agreement with Sky. It is not clear if and how this news will have an impact on the expansion of the service in Europe.
HBO Max recently made headlines after its unprecedented decision to completely destroy Batgirl, a $90 million DC movie that had already been shot in full and was now in post-production.
The new platform that combines HBO’s offer with that of Discovery it will be born in the summer of 2023. It is not clear how much it will cost, but it is likely that the company will decide to double the offer and also launch an economic version of the service supported by advertisements.
