Amazon he bought i robot, the company that produces the famous and acclaimed Roomba home robots. The company announced that it would complete the acquisition as soon as possible. The transaction provides for a shareholder compensation set at $61 per share, at a total cost of $1.7 billion.

The company has indicated that there are no major changes to the management of iRobot. the current CEO, Colin Hoek, it stays in place. “IRobot has successfully demonstrated over the years that it can reinvent the way people clean their homes, thanks to practical and intelligent solutions,” the Amazon statement reads. “Customers love iRobot products, we look forward to working with them to create new devices designed to make people’s lives easier and more fulfilling.”

It goes without saying that this agreement could open the door to a whole host of exciting integrations between the two companies’ products and ecosystems. We wouldn’t be surprised if one day iRobot products, including the roombawere able to actively interact with Alexa, Alexa’s voice assistant.

We wouldn’t even be surprised if Amazon decided to use iRobot’s know-how to improve its upcoming products. One for all? The Astro line of robots.
