After Google I/O 2022 announced last year, the Mountain View company has finally sent a Google Pay replacement to Spain, a new app called Google Wallet that replaces the old Google Pay app on our smartphone.
Google has decided to change both the interface and the name to expand the experience of this app as well, as it will allow us to combine our credit cards, loyalty cards, transport cards, COVID passport (not yet operational in Spain), driver’s license and even boarding cards in one app. coupons.
This is an application that will gradually reach terminals with the Android operating system and will automatically replace the previous one, although we will also be able to download it from web pages such as apkmirror where we will download the APK file.
It may happen that by going to the Google Play Store of our smartphone and clicking on updates, it is already out and we can install it. If not, as we have already said, we must use websites with APK executables.

The name they have decided to adopt for this new app is much more closely in line with the concept it now serves as “Wallet” means “Wallet” than this app basically is, as we will not only have our credit and debit cards, but we will also be able to carry transport, boarding or discount cards with us.
Once we install the application, we will see how it works, in general terms, very similar to what we had with Google Pay.
The first thing that will appear before our eyes are the cards that we have already linked to the previous application. Assuming we don’t have them, we’re offered the option to do so, or we can add a new one whenever we want.
Set up Google Wallet
If by chance we want to add a new debit or credit card, we are going to click on “Add to Wallet” and on the next screen, click on “Payment Card”.
Already inside we will see an option that places a new credit or debit card, in addition to the list of old cards that are out of date because they have expired and from here we can perform operations again. This is true as long as we used the old Google Pay.
At this time, we will see a window in which we will see that our camera is activated. This is used to focus on a specific card and have the system automatically collect all data such as the holder’s name, card number and expiration date. The only thing we will have to enter manually is the CCV code, which is always on the back of the card.
On the same screen at the bottom, we will have the option “Enter data manually”. Thus, we will be the ones who will manually enter all the data required to work with Google Wallet.
On the same screen where we add credit cards, we can also add transit cards, loyalty cards (those that generate points), and gift cards.
How Google Wallet Works
Something we need to know is that in order to use the features of Google Wallet, our phone must include at least one pin code to be able to unlock it in order for this application to work, although, as usual, it is recommended to have a fingerprint sensor and face recognition activated.
Another thing that we must not forget is to activate the NFC system, because if this is not the case, we will not be able to pay with Google Wallet.
Once this is done, the operating system becomes extremely simple, because all we have to do is enter the application when we want to pay in a place where they have such a payment capacity, which is widespread in almost all stores today.
When we are in the app, we will select the card we want to pay with and we will simply bring the phone closer to the POS and we will automatically see how the payment has already been made on its own.
It’s so easy to pay with our mobile phone in any store where there is such an opportunity.
Although, as you have seen, Google Wallet offers us several options, in the coming months they will all be expanded, since it will even allow us, as Google itself says, to have a driver’s license, hotel digital keys, car keys and some other things in this application.
That’s why we still have to wait a while for this app to be one hundred percent, at which point it will be much more capable than the Google Pay app it replaces.
