Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 impressions and everything you need to know about this folding clamshell

Samsung has just introduced a new foldable model. No wonder, since we knew perfectly well that this Wednesday would be the unboxing, and besides, a few days ago we were in London testing the devices.

In fact, this kind of presentation allows us to give you the most … personalized information, since this is not a simple table of characteristics, but (okay, okay) the same table, but with an opinion on some aspects of new devices.

I’ve already told you about my first impressions of the Fold 4, a foldable tablet that is, yes, an improvement over the Fold 3, but now it’s time to tell you my first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

And, if you haven’t read my review of the Z Flip 3, this is the concept I like the most, though I think of the two it’s the least different from the previous generation.

Recognizable design, but also customizable to infinity and beyond

Are you from Fold or Flip? This is a normal conversation among those of us who attend Samsung presentations and the conclusions are always interesting because there are different opinions and in the end it shows that subjectivity is very important in this.

I’m more of a supporter of the Flip because without detracting from the Fold and finding it a very useful phone,What I want is a cell phone, tiny when I carry it in my pocket.. I don’t care about thickness so I want it to be as small as possible while still having a big screen.

This is the reason for mobile phones like Flip or Motorola Razr and to be honest I love them because I find them very useful in everyday life.

In this generation, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 has retained everything I loved about the previous generation.but with minor changes, thanks to which it lies somewhat better in the hands.

The outer screen is the same, the cameras protrude a little more, or so I was given, and we have sides that are not completely flat, but definitely less rounded than the Flip 4.

And really, not much else. If we put one next to the other, I don’t think you can tell which is which with the naked eye. and even if you have them in your hands for a while, I don’t know if you can choose one or the other. Except for the sides, the feel in both is very, very similar.

Something important about this model is the tuning of its cases., something that you won’t be able to do at home, but when you buy it. We were shown a demo that had dozens of projectiles that could lead to a lot of combinations, which is really cool.

This setting can also be seen on the external screen, which was already very useful on Flip 3, but here it includes some innovations in the form of new actions that we can perform without opening the phone, but in the end, for almost everything, that don’t look at notifications, calendar or music controls, you’re about to expand it.

Inside we have a screen that fits better to the body thanks to bezels that are slightly thinner and feeling in the hand like an ultra-thin phone with a very good screen.

Here the experience is somewhat more standard than with the Fold 4 because it is not designed for multitasking or for use that is far from what we can do with any other mobile, but this … the reason for this is the existing model.

It’s 6.7″ and promises a lot as it has FullHD+ resolutionwhich is quite standard, but has an aspect ratio of 22:9 and an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz.

I think the crease is somewhat more controllable, especially to the touch, I like the feel of this screen and supports IPX8 protection.

The same guts as its foldable sibling and a battery that increases its size.

I look forward to what my colleague Ruben Andres has to say in his analysis of the Galaxy Z Flip 4.but until then I can only tell you what’s inside.

And the thing is, having the phone for an hour and in a very controlled space (without being able to download some apps and test it properly), I can’t tell you much about performance.

If we talk about “chips”, then we have in our hands mobile phone with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This is a SoC made by TSMC instead of Samsung. (as happened with the SD 8 Gen 1), which promises to be more powerful and, above all, more efficient than the previous generation.

And behind us battery, the capacity of which has increased from 3300 mAh to 3700 mAh. It may not sound like much, but any improvement in this area is actually good news, because the Z Flip 3 lost a lot when used heavily.

Charging is still “fast” from Samsung, which means that we have a maximum of 25 watts and the charger must be purchased separately.

But hey, I love these specs, they are in line with what we can demand for the price, and in the end, we have to applaud the condensation process that Samsung is doing with this particular model.

Cameras with the same megapixels, but larger for better photos

Flip 3 has a pair of 12-megapixel sensors. for angle and wide angle. This is a mobile phone that takes great photos, but it was far from the others in its price range.

Now the new generation supports 12-megapixel sensors (the main one with f / 1.8 aperture with OIS stabilization), but it has some big pixels which allow you to get more dynamic range and better photos in low light.

Then processing and all comes into play, but on paper, Samsung has improved the touch technology for this device.

You will be able to take a selfie with the main camera without opening the terminal, using the external screen for reference, as well as you have a 10 megapixel f/2.4 “internal” camera.

As I said, I want to read what Reuben thinks about this Galaxy Z Flip 4 in his analysis, but for now, all that remains is to tell you that the mobile phone can be reserved from today, with shipments starting on August 26th.

The Flip 4 is priced somewhat cheaper than the previous generation and you can get it from 1099 euros.
