The aerospace sector stands ready to provide a range of innovative services for requests of various types, both public and private. The novelty concerns the Grottaglie airport, within which the spaceport titled “Criptaliae Spaceport”, from the old name of the city.

The Memorandum of Understanding affects some public entities, including ENAC, Aeroporti di Puglia, ENAV and the Military Aviation Authority, which will be users of aerospace services. The new structure of Grottolie will give southern Italy a lot of prestige, as ENAC President Pierluigi Di Palma stated:

A unique excellence in Europe arises in the heart of Southern Italy. The project we are launching today together with the airports of Puglia and its president Antonio Vasile has the ambition to bring the aerospace ecosystem into the near future. Space and space are two fundamental and strategic sectors of the country’s interest and the core of the Criptaliae Spaceport project has as its main objective the promotion of the “new space economy”, which will allow the development of an integrated technological pool, with important employment and economic implications. The future is already here and we are ready to meet the challenge by also encouraging the creation of innovative start-ups: because not only the concepts and ideas of advanced air mobility and aerospace, but also their performance will be natural elements in everyday life life of the new generations.

In Puglia and the south, we have the right skills to ensure that the aerospace sector is a tool to consolidate the regional development system. I am thinking of the economic impact of the Grottaglie spaceport, which I am sure will affect not only the Apulian territory, but also the national territory. We at Aeroporti di Puglia have risen to the challenge, we have used all our skills to win it and bring the benefits to the community.

Antonio Maria Vasile, President of Aeroporti di Puglia
