Stephen Hawking’s very strange theories, and some of them unexpectedly turned out to be true

No one can deny that the great Stephen Hawking was one of the greatest physicists who ever lived and will live. Having a brilliant scientific career, he did not go through life without pain and glory, and despite his severe illness, which we all know, he had a great impact on our society through his research.

From 1996 to 2018 he did not stop publishing numerous articles who delved into a variety of topics that led many to call him crazy.

From his amazing vision of black holes to his explanation of the origin of the universe, we leave you with some of his most famous theories, many of which have already been proven right.

Hawking radiation

This theory has a lot to do with already known and mediated black holes. Well, this name comes from the fact that its gravity is so strong that the small particles of light inside it cannot escape from the hole.

However, here Hawking wanted to twist the loop and added that not everything boils down to something so simple and explained that some of these photons would appear to be emitted by the black hole.

The theory is called “Hawking radiation”. recently confirmed in an experiment done at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology using sound instead of light to recreate this theory. They found the equivalent of “Hawking radiation” exactly as physicists predicted.

multiverse

Let’s start with something completely amazing. This is one of the topics that Hawking touched on at the end of his career and life. According to this, our universe, which began in the Big Bang, is just one of an infinite number of coexisting universes.

Yes, it is true that he limited this multiverse and did not expose it as free will, in which if an episode happens here, then in another universe it happens differently. In his latest 2018 article, Hawking tried, in his own words, “an attempt to tame the multiverse” and made it complete.

In this curious case, conjectures are free and it is impossible to check whether his words are true or not.

Timeline Defense Guess

Even if we think otherwise, the laws of physics do not prevent time travel. Here we enter into an Einstein-Hawking conflict, since the former in his equations of general relativity includes closed curves in time that would allow travel to the past.

Hawking resented this because he believed that traveling back in time created logical paradoxes that simply shouldn’t be possible. That’s why he came up with it some currently unknown physical law prevents the appearance of closed curves in time. In short, he believes that this is impossible, so there must be something that prevents this, which we do not yet know about.

big bang wins

Hawking, during the period when he was finishing his doctoral dissertation, there was a big debate: big bang vs steady state. Both theories acknowledged that the universe is expanding, but in the first it expands from a condensed state, and the second suggests that the universe has been expanding forever.

In his dissertation, Hawking showed that the steady state theory was mathematically inconsistent and explained why the universe began from an infinitesimal point. Today this theory is accepted among scientists.

no creator

We talked about the Big Ban, but what happened before? what existed before this event? For Hawking, the answer is simple: nothing, it all started with the Big Ban. “For me, this means that there is no possibility of a creator,” told LiveScience magazine, “because there is no time for a creator to exist.”

Here we find an opinion that already has a tail and with which many disagree.

black holes are real

Hawking’s name is most associated with black holes. His genius turned what had previously been theoretical into something that seemed to actually exist in the universe.

The final proof that Hawking was right came in 2019, when the Event Horizon Telescope took a direct image of the supermassive black hole lurking at the center of the giant galaxy Messier 87.

doomsday prophecies

If there’s one thing we’re all passionate about, it’s prophecy. Some, like Bill Gates, are now in this media hotspot with their predictions, but at the time, everyone listened to Stephen Hawking, especially in the last years of his life.

They range from the suggestion that the Higgs boson, or “divine particle,” could cause a vacuum bubble that would engulf the universe, to alien invasions and AI dominance.
