Over there monarch butterfly Danaus plexippus plexippus was officially included in the IUCN Red List. A friendly advertisement high risk of extinctionalong with many other species. The news was made official by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

The monarch butterfly is becoming increasingly rare, unfortunately its beautiful black and orange colors will slowly become a distant memory. It used to populate the Northern Hemisphere profusely. It is a migratory insect with an annual journey of 4,000 kilometers. It winters in Mexico to return to the United States and Canada in the summer.

Due to the disappearance of its habitat and climate change, the monarch will become extinct. The number of copies has recently decreased. In the past 10 years, this specimen in America has declined between 22% and 72% due to deforestation, pesticides, fires and poaching.

The most affected are the western populations of these beautiful butterflies. Between the 1980s and 2021, 99.9% of specimens died. Of the first 10 million monarch butterflies, we have reached 1,914. This species has been urgently added to the Red List here. The list contains 147,517 species, of which 41,459 are in danger of extinction.

Today’s Red List update highlights the fragility of nature’s wonders, such as the unique spectacle of monarch butterflies migrating thousands of miles. To preserve nature’s rich diversity, we need protected, equitably governed areas, along with bold action to address climate change and restore ecosystems.
