There seems to be no end to the imagination of researchers and engineers. One of the most curious inventions, to remember the shape of the Shinkansen super train, inspired by the beak of the kingfisher. The same happened for the realization of the Biomimic Wind Converter. It is about a wind turbine new able to transform the energy of the wind thanks to two specific blades. Yes, they are special because they remind me of mixing wings of a hummingbird.

Thanks to Tunisian startup Tyler Wind who was inspired by this invention. This turbine is different from the others because of its wings that resemble those of a hummingbird. They are different from other traditional wind turbines, whose blades rotate 360 degrees and resemble those of a clock. The idea came from the comparison made with the hummingbird’s ability to stand still for a long time during flight. The new turbine can: capture energy both in the phase of the blades moving forward and backward.

The blades are made in carbon fiber and are each 1.6 meters long. As they rotate, they cover an area of 3.6 square meters with a power of 1 kW. The new wind turbine also has advantages in house. It has small dimensions that allow it to be installed even in the smallest of spaces. In addition, it offers the possibility to install two machines on two levels of the same tower.

The hummingbird turbine also makes less noise, which means that it causes less noise nuisance. It is also safer for birds, which can often collide with large plants. The project is supported by funding from a group of private investors (mainly from Pakistan and Algeria). Tyler Wind is already busy launching the turbine on a large scale in the near future.
