For the second time in less than 12 months, Tesla has again increased the Full self-driving pricethe optional package that provides access to several advanced driver assistance functions.

All of Tesla’s latest generation of cars already have the necessary hardware to support advanced semi-autonomous driving features, but the service is offered as a paid option: the owner can decide at any time to unlock the package by paying an extra and advanced features will are made available through a OTA update.

Elon Musk announced on Saturday that the price of FSD will become of $15,000 from Sept. 5 Until then, the package will be offered at the current price of $12,000. “You can update the car in two minutes with the official Tesla app,” Elon Musk added.

The strategy is not new: Tesla has periodically increased the price of the option for several years. The automaker even offered the option to book the FSD package even before it was available, asking users to take a small leap of faith. Advanced autonomous driving features were originally offered for $7,000, which is less than half the price new. Last July, Musk expected the package to rise in price again, adding that it would take advantage of the $12,000 price tag while there was time, considering it was a “ridiculously low” price compared to the included features.
