If the smartphone market has been in a foldable mobile fever for years, it looks like the computing sector has also taken notice of the technology. After millennia of folding paper, we’re about to start folding our computers.

In that sense, ASUS has always been a brand that hasn’t hesitated to innovate, despite the fact that it usually results in a loss when an invention doesn’t work. Fortunately, in many other cases they are right.

Today we have an official presentation this is the world’s first 17-inch foldable laptop and we have the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED specs. Let’s take a look at them:

ASUS Zenbook 17x OLED Screen
Dimensions and weight Unfolded: 378 x 287 x 8.7mm | Folded: 287 x 189 x 17.4mm | 1.5 kg
Operating system Windows 11
CPU Intel Core i7-1250U
RAM 16 GB LPDDR5 at 5200 MHz (soldered)
storage 1TB PCIe 4 NVMe.M2 SSD (6500MB/s read)
Graphic card Integrated Intel Iris X graphics
Screen 17.3″ or 12.5″ foldable OLED panel | 2560 x 1920 pixels | Ratios 4:3 and 3:2 | Click | 100% DCI-P3
Wireless / networks WiFi 6 | Bluetooth 5.2
Data/audio/video connectors 2x Thunderbolt 4 | 1 entrance and exit

This laptop is extraordinary with its ability to transform into a giant tablet, transforming into a small laptop and transforming into a full 17″ panel that will meet the needs of the most demanding users. For this reason, it is better to look inside.

Although we are talking about a very versatile team, there are a number of components within it that we can analyze. to find out what ASUS has to offer us with the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, beyond novelty and versatility.

Processor and graphics card Intel

Although AMD is the most fashionable company in the world of processors, ASUS has chosen Intel to bring its hardware to life. We can see that the processor inside the Zenbook 17 Fold OLED is a low-powered i7-1250U.

This microcontroller came out at the beginning of the year and belongs to the 12th generation of Intel, which, according to experts, has proven itself so well. SoC consists of 10 cores (2 P-cores and 8 E-cores).so you can easily see that the purpose of this microcontroller is to save energy and be as efficient as possible.

Regardless, it’s claimed to hit 4.7GHz at top speed, have 12MB of cache, and consume 9W. for undemanding use and maximum power not exceeding 29 watts. Very good numbers that will lead to more hours of battery life.

Not much to say about the GPUsince we see that they have chosen Intel integrated graphics for these cases, Iris X. It performs well in professional environments, but you can’t expect it to perform like a NVIDIA or AMD dedicated one. This choice makes the use of the laptop straightforward.

Folding OLED screen with two different resolutions

Let’s go with something interesting. The Zenbook 17 Fold OLED allows us to use it both stretched and folded. Every time we select, we change the screen size, resolution, and aspect ratio. Let’s explain it.

Laptop if used stretched (by touch or with a wireless keyboard you bring from home) offers us 17.3″, 2.5K resolution (2560 x 1920 pixels) and 4:3 aspect ratio. If we use it folded, the laptop becomes 12.5 inches, resolution is 1920 x 1280 pixels. and a ratio of 3:2.

This allows us to always choose the size that interests us the most. But still, the panel is always the same: OLED with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. This means it can be used for professional video and photography.

Memory, internal memory and battery

This part should not be overlooked as it usually shows how good or bad the team is aging. At the level of memory ASUS laptop opted for a single configuration of 16 GB LPDRR5 at 5200 MHz. We don’t know how the pickups are installed (two-channel?), only that they are soldered.

About the internal memorywe see that they have chosen the current technology, since they list a read speed of 6500MB/s thanks to the use of a 1TB NVMe.M2. This speed is due to the fact that it is connected via PCIe 4.

To finish we have a 75 Wh battery that, although somewhat meager, promises up to 9.5 hours of use in portable mode and 8.5 hours in PC mode. It’s good that it weighs only 1.5 kg without the keyboard.

ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED price and availability

The hallmark of this laptop is knowing how much it will cost. Unfortunately, there are no official prices at the moment, although It is supposed to be between 3200 and 3500 euros, although we may see an introductory offer for less than 3000 euros.. But nothing is certain at the moment.

In terms of availability, the company is expected to open bookings in the coming weeks for them to arrive during the last quarter of the year before returning to school/university/work.
