And if theiPhone 15 did not have no door for charging? To suggest this radical (and perhaps improbable) hypothesis is the PhoneArena website. There are five (very good) reasons to take this idea very seriously.

To be clear, analysts are tentatively convinced that the new iPhone 15 will say goodbye to the Lightning input, which will therefore be replaced by the USB-C port, already present on all products of the iPad line. This dissertation was recently relaunched by noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. We remind you that the European Union recently introduced a regulation that requires smartphone manufacturers (and others) to use only the UBS-C standard. Sure, as long as you have a front door. And the point is just that: Apple could eliminate the Lightning input and leave only wireless charging for the battery and Bluetooth for data transfer.

Let’s take a look at the five reasons that led Phone Arena to envision a future where iPhones will be devoid of any kind of connecting piece.

  1. Apple has already removed every port from the AirPods Pro 2 charging case. They charge exclusively with MagSafe technology, using the same charger as the Apple Watch. “It’s the future of charging for Apple products,” the company added, noting that other products could follow this trend.
  2. With the iPhones 14, Apple has already done the unthinkable by saying goodbye to the physical SIM card slot. The technology to do it without them – ie eSIMs – is already here, so why not? In theory, the same principle also applies to charging batteries.
  3. Wireless charging has an obvious disadvantage over wired charging: it’s slower. In some cases Terribly slower. Still, Apple doesn’t seem at all interested in chasing competitors like Xiaomi and OPPO in the race for ultra-fast charging standards. Charging the iPhone 14 is already much slower than that of several other top-end Android devices.
  4. The new Dynamic Island, introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, is yet another proof of how Apple isn’t interested in chasing the competition and following the rules set by others. The future, according to Apple, is a future without doors, just as the future according to Apple prefers facial recognition, not fingerprints, to protect users’ security.
  5. No less important than all other points, Apple has higher margins on MagSafe line products. Conversely, it wouldn’t make big bucks off the USB-C standard, a standard it doesn’t control. Anyone can make and sell USB-C cables, and Apple doesn’t make a cent.
