Mercedes will be able to count on a partner of great prestige to test its ambitious electric truck on the road eActros LongHaul: The automaker has signed a letter of intent with e-commerce giant Amazon. And not only that, Mercedes has also entered into a second partnership, with the same goals, with Rhenus.

The eActros LongHaul has been talked about for a while now. It is an extremely ambitious vehicle, which can revolutionize road transport by making a significant contribution to reducing pollution. It works thanks to some charging stations that have been designed ad hoc and will in the future be spread over the main highway junctions of the busiest routes. The first will be installed on the A2 motorway between Belino and the North Rhine region.

The most powerful stations guarantee a maximum of one megawatt of power, which they should allow reload trucks from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes stop. Mercedes claims a full charge can take as little as 45 minutes, coinciding with the break that carriers are entitled to. Mercedes eActros LongHaul trucks offer 500 km of range on a single charge. Combined with high-speed charging, it should deliver performance comparable to that of a traditional truck.

The collaboration with Amazon and Rhenus allows Mercedes to test the truck in multiple real-world scenarios before its big debut.
