Surely more than once when you visited refuel gas stationyou wondered if they topped up your deposit with the amount you paid. How to find out if the liters of fuel you paid for were delivered at the gas station?
Vehicles have different measurement methods and some are more accurate than others. Some cars mark exact liters of fuel in the tankand others don’t.
We assume, and we are convinced of this, that the vast majority of gas stations offer the exact amount. That is, when paying for 10 liters, 10 liters are served. But you can’t be 100% sure either. And if the one you enter instead of 10 liters they pour you 9.5 or 9.75 liters? It may seem that the difference is small, but in the year of refueling this is a significant amount.
Don’t rely on gas stations
The truth is there is a legal way check if the gas station is cheating usas explained by our colleague Noelia Lopez at Auto Bild.
In accordance with the law, all petrol stations should be provided test specimens which they will provide to users as long as they ask for it.
This system allows you to check the exact amount of gasoline or diesel fuel emitted by the station pump. These test specimens must be sealed, to avoid forgery.
If you suspect that the gas station gave you less than you paid, You can ask the manager to bring a test tube. It’s his responsibility, so if he refuses, you can report him.
As we have said, the tube must be sealed. It is you who must open it and begin the test. Mark the desired liters on the dispenser and pour fuel into a glass, which has a scale. It should measure exactly the same as you marked on the fuel pump. If not, you can report to the gas station.
It’s strange that the gas station misleads you and delivers less fuel than you pay, because the punishment for this trap involves large fines, and even the closure of the business. But it’s important that you know that there is a way to make sure test tubeand you have the right to demand it.
