It is extremely important that our vehicle has the appropriate environmental stickersome environmental badges that, among other benefits, will allow us to circulate very soon in the new low emission zone to be included in Spanish cities of over 50,000 people from next year.
And still those cars without environmental labelsthey had quite a hard time when it came to moving around a new area low emissions from these places, in addition to other shortcomings, and when we talked about historical vehicles, things got complicated.
And the fact is that historical cars, like pollutants, do not have environmental labelswhich, among other things, will not allow them to enter the centers of big cities next year, creating big problems for these users.
However, according to a royal decree, which is in preparation, DGT is preparing a revision of the rules to allow historic vehicles to continue driving in city centers. and therefore access these low emission areas without requiring an environmental sticker.
If successful, environmental labels on historic vehicles will not be required in the new regulation. which will come into force on January 2, 2023.although it will eventually be city councils that will allow historic vehicles access to the new low emission zone.
It should be clarified that this exemption will only apply to vehicles registered as heritage vehicles and will apply to both cars and motorcycles. and which are sometimes used as everyday transport.
In any case, given that this type of vehicle, most of which tend to circulate less than 20 days a year, this does not pose any environmental problem.
Reform that will make it easier to register historic cars
On the other hand, the DGT also wants to start a reform that will make it easier to register historic vehicles, simplifying the procedures required to register a vehicle with such characteristics, “putting an end to the excessive complexity and high cost of the administrative procedure.”
DHT will offer an abbreviated registration procedure for historic vehicles, which could be carried out on vehicles registered for the first time in Spain. at least 30 years old that are in circulation and with current ITV.
With that said, and the fact that environmental labels won’t be mandatory on historic vehicles, users of this legacy can rest easy.
