Spotify wants to reach the 200 million paying users – and therefore subscribe to Premium – by the end of the year. According to last quarter’s data, the platform would be one step away from meeting its targets.

Spotify closed the third quarter of 2022 with a gross profit of 456 million euros in advertisements. Subscribers to Spotify Premium they are already 195 million, up 13% year-over-year. Only 5 million subscribers would be missing to achieve the target communicated to investors.

Spotify today has 450 million active users, a figure that includes both users subscribed to the free version and users subscribed to Premium. Another goal: active users grow by 20% annually. Turnover grew by 21%, almost 3 billion euros, but there are still losses: a deficit of 166 million.

Meanwhile Spotify participate in Apple’s attack, accused of anti-competition. In particular, the reference to the company of audiobooks, one of the sectors on sui focuses on Spotify, along with music and podcasts. “The process for buying content is too confusing and complicated, causing harm to consumers, publishers and authors,” the European company said in a note. “We believe audiobooks have tremendous potential, but Apple’s rules are artificially slowing their growth.”

Four years ago, Spotify filed a complaint against Apple with the European Commission. “We are still waiting for an answer,” said CEO Daniel Ek.
