International cooperation Ice Cubea large detector built in Antarctica, sighted gods cosmic neutrinos which provided clues about hypothetical effects as a result of the so-called Quantum gravitation. This tries to explain the universe by agreeing to the theory of relativity with the Quantum Mechanics.

The data has been published in the journal Nature physics and made it possible to demonstrate the importance of cosmic neutrinos in the study of the deeper nature of matter. One of the peculiarities of these elusive particles is that they are able to: to swingor change a specific state, said taste, throughout their lives. A neutrino born with one of three flavors (muon, electron and tau) can oscillate in one of the other two.

IceCube, like Km3Net under construction in the Mediterranean, is a detector designed to identify cosmic neutrinos produced in the universe by extremely violent phenomena. Neutrinos from which a lot of valuable information can be obtained.

The aim of the study was to measure the distribution of these flavors, or their percentage. In fact, any deviation from the expected number would signal a disturbance not foreseen by standard physics.

Perhaps the most relevant aspect is a further demonstration of how cosmic neutrinos, normally used to investigate extreme cosmic phenomena, could also prove important in the study of particle physics.
