A new study published last Thursday (20) in the scientific journal nature says Scientists have found variants of this species. human DNA which may be responsible for causing dyslexia. The study is considered the largest genome association study (GWAS) and in total, 42 independent regions in the genome found to be associated with the disorder genetic.

Scientists analyzed and realized that the disorder is predominantly inheritedIt affects up to 70% of people who have family members with dyslexia. they used Data from over 51,000 adults diagnosed with the disorder and so they tested the associations of genetic variants to discover the result: 42 variants that might be responsible for the problem.

A total of fifteen genes were associated with the cognitive and learning abilities of the participants, while the others were linked with language delay. Also, according to the study, 27 of the 42 sites found by scientists are likely new and more specific about dyslexia.

The research was carried out by researchers from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland), the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (The Netherlands), the QIMR Berghofer Institute for Medical Research (Australia) and the US company 23andMe.

dyslexia and genetics

“Our findings suggest that common genetic differences have very similar effects in boys and girls, and that there is a genetic link between dyslexia and ambidexterity. Previous studies had suggested that certain brain structures might be altered in people with dyslexia, but we found no evidence that genes explain this,” says the study author. and Michelle Luciano, PhD, from Edinburgh University.

23 genomic locations were confirmed, including data from people born in China or Europe. The data allowed them to discover that dyslexia occurs equally in men and women.

From research information, scientists claim they can predict reading and spelling skills in children and adults from four datasets, but still lack the precision necessary to make a diagnosis. They believe that further work could help develop a knowledge base on the subject, thereby establishing a type of detection and treatment for children with dyslexia.
