Elon Musk clarifies the history of paid blue ticks on Twitter. In the future, any user will be able to verify their account and receive the coveted check, which will no longer be a privilege for some ‘VIP’ users (including celebrities, politicians and journalists).

He will have to pay for this. Not $20 as it turned out last week, but $8 a month. That’s the retail price of the Twitter Blue plan, which offers a fairly small number of features these days (including the ability to use NFTs as a profile picture).

It is not the only novelty to be introduced. Users who subscribed to Twitter Blue, precisely because of the check, have priority about everything: their posts and their replies are shown before the content of all other users precisely because the check is a guarantee that they are people of flesh and blood and not bots.

Elon Musk also anticipated plans to launch a series of collaborations with major newspapers around the world, following a similar model to Apple News+. Subscribers will have access to paid content from the newspapers that decide to participate in the initiative. Essentially, Twitter Blue will function as a sort of Netflix publication, giving you access to some newspaper articles with paywall.

The billionaire also announced that the cost of the subscription will vary from country to country, catering to different needs and purchasing power. In developing countries it will certainly cost much less.
