In no less than 35 countries, starting in the US, it is now possible to subscribe Spotify Premium on device android without by the Google Payment Network and the Play Store. A revolution for the market, opening the door to a possible transformation of the app and digital payment economy.
Oh yes, because maybe the end user is interested in the right thing (after all, he has yet to put his hand on his wallet), but for developers it is a fundamental step. Spotify will have more freedom and control over users’ payments, with all the consequences that entails.
Spotify is the first company to benefit from the program Google User Choice billing. Android users can choose an alternative payment method or platform to subscribe to the Premium version of the platform.
Spotify will be able to process payments through its own circuit and benefit from much lower commissions. However, Google continues to withhold a small portion of payments.
On paper, the change translates into a 4% discount on the fees currently paid by Spotify to Google. A couple of things? In short, count on the fact that the bills are not made on the single transaction but on the huge stream of payments collected monthly by Spotify around the world.
With a press release, Spotify expressed its satisfaction with the agreements made with Google, arguing that it is the fulfillment of a battle that the platform has been fighting for years. “More open and fair platforms help improve the user experience,” notes the European company.
