Even cats are homesick. It is the case of Cocci who lack of the country of origin he decided to take a long journey to get home. After moving to Normandy with his family from Souilly, France, the cat disappeared on August 23, 2021 and was never traced again. A year later, the owners had lost hope of finding it, at least 600 kilometers away.

Cocci is 10 years old, she was found a month ago and is recovering. In the summer of 2021 she had moved with her pet from Souilly to Ginai, Normandy. However, the cat, who was homesick for her country of origin, wanted to leave them to go home. After years of searching, the owners had given up hope. But then a photo of an emaciated cat surfaced on a missing pet classifieds website. It was Cocci, found in Ambly-sur-Meuse, just 15 kilometers from the family’s old home.

A wasted, hungry, flea infested and very thin feline. However, the love of the masters recognized it anyway. The cat was logically in that state after having it covered 600 km in a year. A gendarme retrieved it from under an exhausted car. Before being handed over to her family, she was treated by a local veterinarian.

Cocci must have tried to return to what he considers his home, to his shed and to “his” mice in the Meuse department. He took advantage of a door left open and left. When she disappeared, I told my kids at some point that maybe she decided to do that yield to the old residence. I was joking, but actually, and without knowing it, I was right.

Laëtitia De Amicis, owner of the cat

The cat is now back with her owners and is starting to get used to life in Normandy. Now it’s more wild and less cuddle-seeking, he needs more rest and attention. Only small caresses are accepted so as not to make her nervous and see her run away. She has a gruffer disposition, but in the end, her family is thankful they found her.
