And the fact is that since this year, cities like Madrid and Barcelona have a number of rules in place that apply to those who wear and do not wear this type of DGT label.
It should be clarified that these environmental labels arise due to National Air Quality and Atmospheric Protection Plan where it is noted that both nitrogen dioxide and other pollutants from road traffic are the main source of pollution in cities.
In Madrid, vehicles without an environmental badge can only drive on the M-30 highway, but not enter it, that is, if your car does not have a DGT sign, you cannot enter Madrid.
This measure is exempt for residents, but from 2023 the measure is being tightened and they will also not be able to travel on the aforementioned M-30; from 2024, all roads within the territorial zone of Madrid will be banned; and from 2025, even residents will not be able to move around.
Sanctions in Madrid for not having this eco-label it will be 15 euros for a minor infringement.
As for Barcelona, the low emission zone also restricts access to the most polluting cars throughout its metropolitan area, but only at certain times: from 7 am to 8 pm. vehicles without labels can request daily permits no more than 10 times a year.
Although most drivers have received the appropriate environmental sticker, it can also be purchased through the post office by presenting a driver’s license, an identity document and paying five euros. You can also get it from various authorized auto repair shops.
