In August 2022 polar Starswedish electric vehicle company, announced a partnership with Candela, also a Swedish manufacturer of electric boats, with the aim of regularly supplying batteries and charging systems for new boats. Leaving, moreover, the door open for future projects.

With this announcement, Candela became the first company to receive components from Polestar that have not yet been supplied to third parties. Months later, the union is already bearing its first fruits. The proof of this is Candela C-8 Polestar PoweredPolestar’s first all-electric battery-powered boat that also has interesting features.

The Candela C-8 actually has some really interesting features and is very rare on ships. However, the most important is its battery. Polestar Powered in particular equipped with a 69 kWh batterythe same as those included with the Polestar 2, which in this case allow you to travel up to 57 nautical miles on a single charge.

“The Candela C-8 is the first electric vessel that can travel to destinations that were previously only accessible by internal combustion engine ships.”

This is Gustav Hasselskog, CEO of Candela.

The new boat from Candela and Polestar, according to the Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer, can achieve two to three times the range compared to conventional electric seaplanes. At 20 knots, in addition, the Candela C-8 Polestar Powered can offer twice the range of other conventional electric boats.

Candela and Polestar C-8 sail above sea level

Another interesting detail of the Candela C-8 is how it navigates at sea. He does this as if above the water level, as if flying. This is achieved thanks to C-POD, the company’s electric motor, as well as retractable C-FOIL system height adjustable.

For example, when the boat reaches speeds above 16 knots, they turn completely around, causing the boat to hang in the air. In other conditions, and to protect the engine, the “sheets” can be completely closed, as a result of which the draft – the lower part of the boat – will be flooded.

Deliveries of the Candela C-8 Polestar Powered will begin in spring 2024. Its price starts from 330,000 euros in basic configuration and can reach 421,000 euros. Including, yes, additional features such as the €6,500 fast charging option, extra furniture inside, etc.
