Specialty dressing company Mölnlycke has launched a smartphone game that aims to raise awareness of parents, healthcare professionals and patients about a rare skin disease, Epidermolysis Bullosa.
Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is caused by a malfunction of the proteins responsible for adhesion between skin layers.
Because of this, the epithelial tissue becomes very fragile and can rupture even at the slightest abrasion.
There are various presentations of the disease that can affect different layers of the skin. Diagnosis can be made at birth.
There is no cure for the disease and it is not contagious because of its genetic origin.
The disease is little known and still raises many doubts and fears in its treatment due to its unique characteristics.
Custom dressing company Mölnlycke promotes the EBA Program (we support with open arms) to raise awareness about Epidermolysis Bullosa, its causes and treatments.
As part of the program, the company developed Borboleta Run, a new tool aimed at providing information about EB in a fun and immersive way.
The aim is to educate, raise awareness and entertain people with PE, their relatives, health professionals and the general public.
Running game style gameplay consists of several stages. Tips on personal care and information on preventing injuries appear on the screen when each goal is reached.
Mölnlycke Marketing Manager Fernando Buffulin explains that the purpose of the game is to promote learning through play while raising awareness about PE.
In Brazil, it is estimated that there are at least 802 people infected with this disease. São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia are the states with the most cases.
The application was developed by Moonite and can be downloaded for free from Google Play and App store application stores.
