Availability of Intel’s Arc laptop video chips is still very limited, but we’re slowly getting a better idea of how entry-level models perform. PCWorld had the opportunity to visit Intel and test their reference system with the Arc A370M.

The system tested was an Intel test laptop based on MSI’s Summit E16 Flip Evo. It’s not clear how much power the Arc A370M is allowed to use, but TDP was probably somewhat limited given the relatively modest dimensions of the original MSI model.

In some benchmarks and gaming tests, the Intel GPU can compete with the GeForce RTX 3050 in a 16-inch HP Specter x360, a laptop comparable in size and form factor. The RTX 3050 Ti and RTX 3060 are still out of reach, although they’ve probably been tested on gaming laptops with much more power and cooling.

As you can imagine, the Arc GPU offers significantly higher performance than the built-in Iris Xe graphics in Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs. Depending on the task, the A370M scored two to four times better than a CPU-only reference model.

The Arc A370M is the second lowest position GPU in Intel’s new lineup. More powerful models in the Arc 5 and Arc 7 series should appear “early summer.” With these video chips, Intel will likely compete with the ‘more serious’ GPUs from Nvidia and AMD.
It is not yet clear when the desktop versions of Arc graphics cards will arrive; It was reported that they were delayed again due to driver issues.
