During a Q&A session with Intel’s bosses, time was taken to further explain the company’s vision. The company’s focus on software stands out here.

Intel management. You see Pat Gelsinger on the far right, Raja Koduri on his left, and on Raja’s left: Sandra Rivera.

Pat Gelsinger, CEO:

When I became CEO of VMWare, Joe Tucci, CEO of BMC, told me: If someone asks you what keeps you awake at night, you have to answer: I sleep well.

The big problem with the shortages was the supply chain, such as production and substrates, rather than technology. We have recently invested a lot in improving our production system and working with our suppliers.

We will grow in the software as a service (saas) market in the near future. By combining Saas with hardware, we can offer a complete solution.

We have recently divided the company into six groups. Also, we’ve seen a few competitors in the market lately. We gave them part of the mark. We did not make the best products in some markets, we are working to improve these products.

I’ve employed fewer software developers in VMWare than I did at Intel. Our current ratios are turnover ratio of 3:1 (software/hardware).

Raja Koduri, gpu group:

Developing technologies that work with open standards. My biggest challenge is developing hardware for it. So they’re all running software that uses that hardware.

Sandra Rivera, data center and AI group:

We work with large clients, including large hyperscalers like Amazon. We learn from them and also develop custom Scalable Xeon processors for them. We learn from the needs of these customers.

We also work with them to develop standard Xeons for smaller customers. These large customers also buy these chips because they are produced in greater numbers so they can take advantage of their lower price tag.
