Microsoft has determined that after the KB5012643 update, Windows 11 systems may experience problems running DirectX 9 applications. The same issue occurs on Windows 10 based systems with versions 21H2, 21H1 and 20H2 after installing KB5011831.

The optional KB5012643 patch was supposed to fix all kinds of bugs.

According to the developer, such programs may close unexpectedly or behave unpredictably. These errors can be found in the Windows Logs under module d3d9on12.dll with exception code 0xc00000094. It doesn’t appear that any particular manufacturer is affected, as Microsoft has stated that it concerns systems with “specific GPUs”.

The developer uses the Rollback Known Issues feature to roll back updates. This undo feature should fix errors quickly and reliably for users using the Windows auto-update feature.
