The AVM has released new updates for some Fritz!Boxes. These special updates are being developed in Fritz! Lab and actually beta versions. There are no new features to be added this time, but there are some interesting improvements.

Improved functionality and bug fixes are being released for the Fritz!Box 7530, 7590, and 7590AX models. In the experimental beta, the company fixed a bug that was blocking internet connectivity due to enabling IPv6 for legacy cell phone sticks. WLAN auto channel functionality has also been improved. In addition to improved radar detection for the 5GHz frequency band, the AVM has also improved the behavior of radar and radio crashes. A distorted channel will now be ignored at the next channel selection (model 7590/6890 only). Automatic channel selection is optimized when operating on a 5GHz network. Channel selection is also repeated when the target channel is blocked by the radar. Visit the mall website for the full list of improvements.

Radar Detection

Fritz!Box makes the WiFi channel available in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. However, the latter is used not only by wireless network devices on Wi-Fi channels 52 to 140, but also by radar installations, which are called privileged users (for example, for air traffic control, military use and weather services). To avoid disturbing these privileged users, Fritz!Box first turns on the 5GHz WiFi network on WiFi channels 36 to 48 after rebooting or changing WiFi settings. users. Only if Fritz!Box does not detect any privileged users during the check, which can take up to 10 minutes (DFS wait time), the router will switch to higher Wi-Fi channels. Because the router notifies Wi-Fi devices in advance of changing channels, their Wi-Fi connections are usually not interrupted.

If the Wi-Fi network still needs to be used during the DFS delay, the router will forward the connected devices to the 2.4 GHz frequency band or another access point. As soon as the 5GHz band is available again, Fritz!Box will send wireless devices to the 5GHz network.
