These are the exceptions that exist to be able to run a red light and not be fined.

One of the most famous rules of the road, which almost everyone knows, regardless of whether they have a driver’s license, is a red light. A sign that forbids us to pass, whether we are a vehicle or a pedestrian, but there are a couple of exceptions to the rule if you are driving.

And that, as you well know, a red traffic signal implies a prohibition of passage for both vehicles and pedestrians, and it must be observed in order to avoid large fines and even deduction of points from a driver’s license.

But there is an exception in which we can run a red light, and if we do not, we may even be fined.

And it lies in the fact that, as the General Directorate of Traffic reminds us, we can miss the red light if the requirement for the predominance of some signals over others is met. And it lies in the fact that the testimony of road agents prevails over the rest.

This means that if the Civil Guard or a police officer tells us to pass a red light to move, we must do so, and if we do not heed it, we will be fined.

On the other hand, from Royal Automobile Club of Spaina (RACE) to clarify that there is another exception, namely that, for example, if we have to give way to an ambulance or a police car and thus miss a red light, this will not be considered a violation and therefore should not be fined.

And we say must, because there is a chance that you will miss an ambulance or a police car at a red light, and then you will be issued a ticket. However, you should remember that you have the right to appeal it if you do not agree with this violation.

You can also use postal mail by sending the appropriate applications to the traffic police headquarters that deals with this procedure, or even, perhaps most expediently, in person by appointment at the traffic police departments.
