Elon Musk announced that he would vote for the Republican Party, arguing that he will be personally attacked by the left for this statement. The Tesla founder has repeatedly publicly challenged the most radical views of the American left in the recent past, even clashing with President Joe Biden.

Musk reiterated that he defined himself as a moderate and that he had “always voted for what I thought was the ‘party of kindness’, i.e. the Democratic Party. “But today they have become the party of hatred and division,” he added. “I can’t keep supporting them, I’m voting for the Republicans.”

“And now you can watch them start their dirty trick campaign against me,” he said. He had previously expected that political attacks on him “would increase exponentially in the coming months.”

It is the first time Musk has spoken out explicitly in favor of Republicans, on the other hand, some of his recent statements aligned perfectly with some of the positions of the Trump party. Just think of the opposition to lockdowns during the early stages of the pandemic. But not only that, also his support for freedom of expression, which, paradoxically, in the US today is a struggle of the right, as opposed to the cancel culture promoted by some circles of the radical left

At the same time, Elon Musk has repeatedly been the subject of heavy attacks by leftists. His dislike of the current White House tenant is quite blatant: Joe Biden has never mentioned Tesla in his numerous speeches in favor of auto electrification, but it is the automaker with the largest market cap in the BEV segment. Biden’s glaring disdain for Musk reached even more paradoxical levels in the summer of 2021, when the White House hosted an “EV Summit,” a roundtable discussion devoted to the topic of electric cars, inviting virtually all households, cars except Tesla.

It’s also worth remembering that Musk’s personal history is closely intertwined with that of… Peter Thiel, with whom he co-founded PayPal. Thiel, who founded and leads Palantir, is known for his right-wing libertarian views and was a strong supporter of the political campaign of Donald Trump, both in 2016 and in 2024. According to some rumors – reported in Italy by the newspaper Il Foglio – there is precisely the hand of Thiel behind the recent takeover of Twitter. In short, the coming out of Elon Musk, who calls himself a Republican these days, doesn’t really surprise anyone.
