Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman wrote in his latest Power On newsletter, Shared news about Apple’s efforts and research to incorporate health functions into AirPods. Although rumors have already been heard, there are now more details about what the future of Apple’s most advanced wireless headphones may bring.

Apple is exploring various health features for its AirPodssuch as heart rate monitor, temperature sensor, and tools that measure multiple physiological parameters. According to Gurman, the main focus right now is the heart rate sensor, which could be one of the most important new features of the company’s next devices.

Its accuracy was observed during internal testing. The data obtained by AirPods is very close to that of Apple Watch. Although there is no detailed information about other sensors, Gurman states that we may see these features implemented in the coming years, possibly in AirPods Pro 3 and perhaps in subsequent generations of regular Airpods.

On the other hand, Apple will also continue to develop cameras for AirPods Pro 3. This project, which was previously shelved, gained importance due to Apple’s increasing interest in products adapted to the age of artificial intelligence. According to Gurman, this development is now a priority for the AirPods hardware and AI teams, but it may take several more years to bring it to market, especially as it will be an expensive technology to implement for the next year.

This year, Apple released a firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2, adding hearing health features and the ability to use them as FDA-certified headphones. The move underscores Apple’s intention to expand AirPods’ health features beyond the Apple Watch ecosystem. Therefore, the arrival of new health-focused functions seems like a logical step in the evolution of the solid department.
