This Monday, AMD announced the newest member of its 4th Generation EPYC CPU family: AMD EPYC 8004 Series Processors. They are specifically designed to meet the demands of workloads in cloud services, intelligent edge and telecommunications.

Featuring the “Zen 4c” core, these processors enable hardware manufacturers to develop energy-efficient platforms ideal for a variety of applications, from retail and telecommunications to cloud storage.

AMD Senior Vice President and General Manager of Server Business Dan McNamara emphasized the importance of these processors: “The new EPYC 8004 Series processors strengthen AMD’s leadership in single-socket platforms.”

AMD EPYC 8004 Series processors excel at delivering performance and power efficiency, especially in markets where these features are required without sacrificing density or quiet operation. According to the company’s statement, these processors stand out with the following features:

Exceptional energy efficiency for the smart edge. With its “Zen 4c” core and new SP6 socket, the EPYC Series 8004 can deliver up to 2x higher SPECpower performance per system watt compared to leading competitors.

Balanced performance. For example, the EPYC 8324P outperforms the competition in video encoding workloads with 2.4x more frames per added frame/hour/system watt.

Savings on smart edge deployments. With the AMD EPYC 8004 Series Processor, customers can expect significant savings in energy costs over five years compared to competitive solutions.

Dell Technologies, Ericsson, Lenovo, Supermicro and Microsoft Azure are among the companies showing support and excitement for the launch of AMD EPYC 8004 Series Processors.

As Dell Technologies launches the Dell PowerEdge C6615 Server, Ericsson sees these processors as an opportunity to provide more efficient power to mobile networks.

Lenovo introduced the Lenovo ThinkEdge SE455 V3, which emphasizes energy efficiency and performance for Artificial Intelligence applications. Microsoft Azure also recognized the unique capabilities that the EPYC 8004 Series will bring to customers in industries such as retail and manufacturing.

Finally, Supermicro has launched new platforms for edge data centers and telecommunications by leveraging the capabilities of AMD EPYC 8004 Series processors.
