With Gen Z, Instagram is testing a new feature called Candid Challenges, which is similar to one of the features of BeReal, a popular photo-sharing app.
The idea is that the user needs to take a photo of their surroundings at a different time, upon notification the Instagram camera also pops up with forward and backward facing triggers, giving users a two minute window to take a photo.
Then the content to share with the challenges will appear in Stories.
This sounds very familiar, because the functionality is almost identical to the way BeReal, a selfie app known as a more intimate and authentic alternative to the major social media platforms, works.
First released in 2019 and It is gaining popularity due to the changes that Instagram has implemented by giving more priority to videos over photos, it also asks users to take a photo with the front and rear cameras of their phones at a random time every day.
The daily prompts also expire after two minutes, after which users can see all the photos shared by their friends that day.
It is not yet known if or when the functionality will be available on Instagram soon.
BeReal has a large following among Gen Z and has grown in popularity in recent months.
The truth is that Mark Zuckerberg said the future of Meta depends on appealing to young adults.Despite increasingly dedicating their time to meta-platforms and TikTok being the main competitor, in the past Instagram has already combined ideas and those of other competitors.
It ranks first in the Apple App Store, ahead of Instagram (No. 8) and Facebook (No. 18).
