Just a week ago, the official trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder was released. It was the second for the new Marvel Cinematic Universe movie on July 8 this year. It’s also quite possible that this is the last time we see Chris Hemsworth’s Thor on screen. In any case, while we are waiting for the premiere of the film, fans have already sorted out all the details of the broadcast frame. And between the villains, the naked Thor and other details, there is also a failure, which Taika Waikiki himself laughed at on social networks.
In fact, it was the director who posted the unsuccessful trailer for the film on social media. Thor: Love and Thunder. The one he defines as “funny” and is related to the automatic translation systems used on different platforms. Specifically with twitter. According to the popular director of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “If robots want to conquer the planet, they should learn accents.” Or, equivalently, Twitter’s artificial intelligence needs to be deeply developed to be able to detect differences in language, at least in English.
And it is that, at least in the Twitter-streamed version of the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer, one of the images of Gorr, the butcher god played by Christian Bale sounds too complicated for a social media detector. According to the actual translation, Gorr says “All the gods will die.” Something obvious when this villain’s mission is to get rid of this race in the Marvel Universe. However, the translator did his job and changed the meaning of Bale’s phrase: “Oh God, we’re going to die.” Bale’s accent was too strong for Twitter’s translation system.
Social networks and Waikiki itself took the message that the villain allegedly said in the trailer with humor. “Gorr is a state of mind in itself,” some have noted.
This isn’t the only tweet trailer translation failure Thor: Love and Thunder. Waikiki itself, thread on twitter, told about all the problems that were discovered. Comments from Thor himself, Jane or Korg Waititi Impossible for Twitter Algorithm. Some couldn’t even find any correlation and just added “translation impossible”.
In general, a little more than a month is left before the premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder in theaters. One that promises to be the final goodbye to one of Marvel’s greatest heroes and an entire leg of the franchise.
