black phone is ready to hit theaters, and the director Scott Derrickson already has an idea for the sequel. He was inspired by the same author who inspired the story that gave rise to the film adaptation: We’re Talking Joe Hill

Interviewed by Comicbook.com, director Scott Derrickson said:

Joe Hill presented me with a fantastic idea for the sequel that I will try to make if the movie goes well. He came up with a great idea, which I really liked. Joe is very protective of his material, but at one point he came up to me and said, ‘This is how you could make the sequel. Fantastic.’

The screenplay for the film is by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, based on Joe Hill’s award-winning short story from his New York Times bestselling “20th Century Ghosts.” The film is produced by Derrickson and Cargill’s Crooked Highway and presented by Universal and Blumhouse. Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are the producers of the film, while the executive producers are Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner.

This is the official summary:
Finney Shaw, a shy but intelligent 13-year-old boy, is kidnapped by a sadistic killer who locks him in a soundproofed basement where screaming is of no use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney finds she can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they’re determined to make sure what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
