Regardless of the pros or cons, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the most successful film and TV franchise and has grossed the most money in history. Over the course of 16 years, they have produced dozens of productions, most of which received very good results both at the box office and among specialized critics.

But there’s one movie about the character that Marvel Studios will never make, according to Kevin Feige, the studio’s president. Mark Ruffalo revealed this during an appearance on Santa Barbara Film Festival. Answering the host’s question, the actor explained that we will probably never see a play based on World War Hulk or Planet Hulk. Both storylines—in the comics, of course—have been highly anticipated by fans of the franchise for years.

Ruffalo explained that Kevin Feige told him they would never make another solo Hulk movie. And that any story related to the character will be spread across multiple films.

“Kevin [Feige] He asked me what I would do with a character in a solo film, to which I replied that I would bring him out of a completely rabid state into a person integrated into society. To which he replied that it could be done, yes, but it would have to be more than four films,” said Mark Ruffalo. Feige then continued, “We will never give you a solo Hulk movie, I hope that’s clear, that’s not going to happen, it has to be a story that happens over four movies.”

The Challenge of Making a Hulk Movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

One of the reasons Kevin Feige told Mark Ruffalo that they would never make another solo Hulk movie (because, remember, there is one, even if it’s not a very good one) is a rights issue. Marvel/Disney can use the character, but they can’t create new productions that focus solely on the Hulk/Bruce Banner.

This is because the distribution rights for the Hulk movie belong to Universal Studios. The only way to achieve this is to reach an agreement like the one Marvel/Disney struck with Sony, which remains tense and at times creates difficulties for continuity within the MCU.

While there have been rumors for years that Marvel/Disney were in talks with Universal to acquire the rights to both the Hulk and other characters such as Namor, they never came to fruition.

In March 2023, Wall Street analyst Jason Bazinet mentioned the possibility of NBCUniversal acquiring the streaming platform. streaming Hulu — which is owned by Disney — and as part of the agreement, the studio gives him the rights to both characters.

We last saw Mark Ruffalo as Hull/Bruce Banner in a small role in She-Hulk: She-Hulk Lawyer, a series starring Tatiana Maslany on Disney+. But according to the actor himself, we will see it in Captain America: Brave New World and later in Avengers: Secret Wars.
