Amazon announced that he would insert new advertising formats on Prime Video. The company will follow in YouTube’s footsteps and insert ads when you pause a TV show or movie. This measure will aim to increase the company’s revenue while sacrificing the user experience of its subscribers.

In its blog for advertisers, Amazon revealed three interactive ad formats. Prime Video will insert advertisements during breaks in TV series and films. They will offer options for purchasing products using a remote control, answering questions or getting more information.

“The introduction of remote capabilities into the living room significantly expands advertisers’ ability to leverage interactive formats across the vast majority of Prime Video content, wherever it airs,” the company said. Amazon claims this “innovative experience” will increase user engagement, leading to increased revenue.

One of these formats will be similar to what we see on platforms like Instagram, where we find product carousel with direct link to the storej. For example, if you pause a chapter fall out, advertising can be activated with various products related to the series or your interests. If you want to buy it, you can add it to your Amazon cart using your remote control or mobile phone.

What kind of advertising will come to Prime Video?

According to Amazon Ads, new formats will arrive “in the next year of streaming.” The company did not provide information about specific dates, although it is preparing an event for advertisers for May 14 next year. He detailed the three types of ads we’ll see.

  • Carousel advertising. This type of advertising is activated during segments designed to advertise Prime Video series or movies and offers a carousel of products. Users can scroll through them and add them to their Amazon cart. These ads automatically stop when they detect user interaction, so if you’re not interested in them, simply ignore them and don’t touch your remote control.
  • Interactive advertising when content is paused. They activate when you pause your favorite Prime Video movie or show. According to Amazon’s description, users will see translucent ads with brand messages and images, as well as “Add to Cart” and “Learn More” buttons. The advertisement will disappear when the video content resumes playing.
  • Interactive advertising with trivia. An “entertainment” version of Amazon that aims to annoy Prime subscribers with questions about a specific advertiser and earn rewards. Like the first option, these types of advertisements are interactive and disappear after a while.

If ads are ruining your entertainment experience, Amazon offers the option to skip them for a fee. An ad-free Prime Video subscription costs €2 (or MXN 50) per month in addition to the membership.
