Directed and written by Anthony Hayes, who carved out the co-star role in the film, Gold tells the story of two hobos (the couple formed by Anthony Hayes and Zac Efron), who travel across the vast desert. Along the way, the two come across a huge gold nugget, the largest ever found. How much could they earn with that piece of gold and what luxurious life could they lead? Obsessed with the thought of the immense wealth in their hands, the two hatch a plan to unearth the nugget. While one of the two sets out to find the equipment needed to extract the nugget, the other stays to check it and wait for him. The latter will have to face the harsh desert climate and try to defend itself not only against wolves, but also against other invaders. As he struggles to stay alive in the endless expanse of sand, he begins to think he is being left alone and left to a rough fate…

In the not-too-distant future, two drifters (Zac Efron, Anthony Hayes) traveling across the desert find the largest gold nugget ever seen, and the dream of immense wealth and greed soon takes hold of them. The two come up with a plan to excavate and recover the treasure, and one sets out to find the tools needed for the venture. The other man remains in the desert and is forced to face enormous adversity: hungry stray dogs and mysterious invaders, along with a growing suspicion that he has been left to his own devices.
