For several months there has been a sustained series of criminal mindsbeloved serial crime (currently streaming on Disney+) that Paramount+ wants to bring back with new episodes: we finally have confirmation that the new season will take place, starring six of its historical protagonists.
The series’ veteran executive producer (and showrunner) Erica Messer will be in the game, starring Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, AJ Cook, Aisha Tyler and Paget Brewster. The character pool is taken straight from the fifteenth and final season and therefore key characters such as Hotchner, Morgan, Callahan, who were present in the first seasons, as well as Daniel Henney (recently featured in The Wheel of Time) were not involved. Gray Gubler, who has now apparently chosen to abandon the character of Spencer Reed, beloved by the public.
The new season will consist of ten episodes with a single major macro-plot, dedicated to the solution of a never-before-seen threat, a “suspect” who has created a truly organized network of serial killers that the team will have to unmask and dismantle before it can strike systematically. Production on the series is expected to start on August 21 in Los Angeles.
Criminal Minds aired for fifteen seasons, from 2005 to 2020, becoming one of the most popular crime series and generating two spin-offs (not so successful). The revival was meant to be a sequel by bringing back some historical characters while also presenting a new team, hoping to run a new series.
