Don’t you understand the ending Sandman? Actually, it’s something predictable. Dream Master’s story, conceived by Neil Gaiman, spans dozens of time arcs as well as several decades of narrative threads. In the Netflix series, the most important ones are combined, some are explored differently than in the source material, and specific characters are given importance. And all this in an elegant and well-built rhythm that captivated the audience.
The platform’s staging surprised critics and audiences alike. After several unsuccessful adaptation attempts, they seem to have found the formula for success. With a clever storyline that brings the main storylines of the comic to Netflix, the show turned out to be a great show. Also a tribute to the fans who have been waiting for over twenty years for a version of one of the seminal works of the graphic novel world.
But Sandman it’s something more. This is a collection of a large number of decisions that turned the story into a high-quality production. From narrative arcs, neat and mostly self-contained, to quality visual design. The series proved that a long story spanning 75 volumes could be adapted. A question that has occupied the public and the specialized press for decades. However, Neil Gaiman and his team worked on more than just glorifying the source material. At the same time, he immersed himself in a universe of rich mythology, which he recreated in all its splendor.
Perhaps for this reason, Sandman’s ending was so emotional, a unique and open door to new places in the story. Points to consider for a likely sequel? A proper goodbye? Still without confirmation of a second season, the closing of its first episodes could be a tour of the best of its on-screen history. Whatever the answer, we leave you a guide to better understand its mysterious conclusion. Please note that this summary is only for the adaptation and not the comic on which the Netflix series is based.
The lord of dreams reaches the necessary maturity
Sandman It is distinguished by the simultaneous narration of several stories. The most important of these is Dream/Morpheus. The Eternal, kidnapped for a hundred years by the mage Roderick Burgess, barely managed to free himself. Throughout the series, his journey is chronicled to reclaim his objects of power and rank. Also to restore the Realm of Dreams.
But there is another aspect of this story that is of particular interest. How Morpheus, a cold cosmic being, indifferent and distant from creation as a whole, begins a moving transformation. Especially, concerning everything connected with his sensitivity to the beings whose dream he is supposed to protect. A long and eventful journey leads the ruler of the Realm of Dreams to the realization that his existence and purpose are connected with man. In addition to the fact that the eternal connection with the most intuitive and refined nature of the world is the essential meaning of its function as a hereditary essence.
End Sandman makes it clear that Morpheus has matured, which has been a constant in Gaiman’s work. Change is essential to character and, in fact, essential enough to ensure its transcendence. After a long journey, in which he could be destroyed several times, the Dream of the Eternal manages to accept this certainty. And make it part of your eternal life experience.
The ultimate fate of the Corinthian in The Sandman
Corinth is a nightmare created by Dream so that people can face their fears. But at some point, the creature rebelled against its creator. What made Dream go in search of him in the waking world. Event fires events Sandmanso many arguments shows the attempts of the Corinthian to confront his adversary.
Either keep him locked up in Roderick Burgess’ basement, or try to use every weapon at his disposal to destroy him. Corinth became for Morpheus an enemy of fear and, in the end, the leader of a sect of murderers obsessed with the fantasy of death. Even Corinth tried to manipulate the vortex of the age – a being capable of destroying the Dreaming Realm – against Morpheus. But in the end, when confronted by his creator, he failed to destroy him by diminishing or affecting his power.
For his last scene on screen Corinth is reabsorbed by Morpheus and disappears.. However, the Dream Lord hints at possibly a second version of the villain. “Without so many flaws,” adds the cosmic being, who, even at its worst moments, considered the nightmare to be its best creation.
The Dream Lord faces his worst threat and manages to defeat it.
In the second half of The Sandman, Dream faces an unexpected enemy. A whirlwind, which is nothing but a person capable of passing through the dreams of those around him. And even, overcome under certain circumstances the power of Morpheus.
The creature, which is often born without a clear explanation (Dream admits that he does not know its origin), is often a threat. Particularly for the stability of the Dream World and Morpheus’ goal to protect the ability to dream of all living beings.
AT Sandman, Rosie Walker turns out to be this ambiguous inexplicable creature. But in reality, the character represents much more than a risk to Dream’s power. In addition to compromising the stability of the collective unconscious containing Morpheus, Rosie must go in search of her brother Jed. The boy, adopted by an anonymous family after the death of both parents, has gone missing. And he is in mortal danger in what appears to be an invisible war of cosmic forces.
And if all of the above wasn’t complicated, Rosie needs to put the pieces of her past in order.. Which includes a more than providential reunion with his great-grandmother Unity Kincaid, one of the victims of the evil dream. A mysterious disease tormented the world for a hundred years due to the captivity of the Dream. The first chapter of the Netflix series shows the gravity of the circumstances as well as Unity’s uninterrupted sleep.
During the last few episodes of The Sandman, it becomes clear that Rosie is a threat to Morpheus. So much so that he must kill her for the sake of peace and the integrity of the Dreaming Realm. She accepts her fate, but then an unthinkable revelation occurs. She is not really a whirlwind, but Unity Kincaid, who is destined to be one by birth. However, he spent most of his life sleeping due to Dream’s captivity, thus inheriting the fate of his offspring. When the secret is revealed Unity can die peacefully in a peaceful sleep and Rosie, stop Morpheus from killing him.
But even more surprising is the identity of Unity’s lover. The latter explains that her daughter was conceived in a dream in a place between worlds. In the midst of a heartfelt goodbye, Unity describes her daughter’s father and Rosie’s great-grandfather as a “gold-eyed” man. An unmistakable trait that immediately tells Morpheus and his faithful librarian Lucienne that Desire is actually Unity’s mysterious love.
And the Sandman’s hidden enemies come to light
One of the big questions raised in Sandman how could an omnipotent being like Morpheus go through such a painful adventure. Captured, detained, stripped of objects of power, and eventually drawn into a confrontation that almost led him to murder a descendant of his blood.
The Ruler of Dreams has gone through all sorts of terrible circumstances. In its final chapter, the Netflix series reveals that the architect of everything that happened was a character who was barely heard from during the story but carries a certain amount of weight. It’s about Morpheus’ younger brother, Desire, who manipulated circumstances to provoke and oppose the Dream King.
Cause? It’s about a dark dispute that comes from the comic and that Sandman partly reflects. Desire and her twin Despair are convinced that Dream is underestimating their power and investment. In one of his few scenes, he makes it clear that everything that happens is due to the arrogant nature of his older brother. Therefore, he fights with him with all the weapons available to him.
Secret in the Eternal family
In fact, in a tough conversation in the season finale, the Eternals’ younger brother admits that over time, he was behind several different schemes against Dream. He points to the “circumstance of Nothing”, a tragic character locked up in Hell for the love of Morpheus, and acknowledges his involvement in what happened between them. and although Sandman doesn’t talk about it explicitly, it’s obvious that this was a situation in which Morpheus was endangered in the past.
But the most shocking revelation is that Desire was the architect of the other central line of the argument. In other words, this tried to force Dream to shed the blood of the heavenly family to cause chaos. And he did it through a bizarre series of tricks, including manipulating situations, having a child with Unity Kindcaid, and creating an almost inevitable situation.
In their last scene together, Dream challenges Desira to meet him and the rest of the siblings. Something that the latter refuses. However, it becomes clear that in this case his struggle was harder than at other times. “I touched something sensitive,” the character explains. “Next time you will bleed,” the protagonist threatens as soon as he leaves the domains that belong to him.
The brothers are reunited and the Arcana are returned to the Dream Realm.
During Dream’s captivity, the Dreaming Realm nearly succumbed to his absence. Which included the flight of most of the creatures of the space being. In particular, his three arcana: nightmares and dreams of special power, representing the power of the Dream Realm. The group includes Corinth, a cruel being who caused the events told in Sandman. On the other hand, Gaunt, a shape-shifting entity. And finally, Fiddler’s Green/Gilbert, which Dream calls “the heart of dreams.”
In the last chapters, it is revealed that Rosie Walker is able to attract the three arcana due to her special nature. And it is. Gaunt defends the dream of his brother Jed, who is suffering from abuse from his foster family.. Gilbert is one of the unique tenants of the house he occupies in search of his brother. And Corinthio tries to manipulate the character’s power against Dream, though he can’t overcome Rosie’s will.
When Corinth was destroyed, Gaunt was forgiven by the Dream for his disobedience, and Gilbert returned to the Realm of Dreams, Morpheus’ dominions regain their splendor. On the other hand, Rosie gets Jed back and culminates in fulfilling her big dream. Write a book in which the main character, of course, will be the King of Dreams.
