James Earl Jones is an actor who has made history and who has lent his voice to some of the most iconic characters in popular culture, in particular we can mention Darth Vader and Mufasa from The Lion King. At the age of 91, the famous actor had a special name Broadway Theater.

The former Cort Theater has been renamed The James Earl Jones Theatre. The ceremony was attended by Samuel L. Jackson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Norm Lewis and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Broadway director Kenny Leon said:

This recognition means a lot to us, we can’t think of an artist who could serve America better.

This is the second Broadway theater dedicated to a black performer, after the August Wilson Theater. James Earl Jones was not present at the ceremony, but was able to take a private tour of the facility on September 8.

Recall that the actor has received two Tony Awards thanks to his performances on Broadway. His roles include Alex Haley in Roots – The New Generations, Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian and Admiral Greer in The Hunt for Red October. Among the comedies, James Earl Jone took part in The Prince Seeks a Wife and The Prince Seeks a Son.
