1 – Freedom of expression and content moderators
Musk has often voiced his concerns that Twitter’s content moderators have gone too far and interfered with the platform too much.
In a regulatory document announcing his attempt to acquire Twitter, he wrote: “I invested in Twitter because I believe in Twitter’s potential to be a worldwide platform for free speech, and I believe freedom of expression is a social imperative.
He added that he did not rely on the company’s current leadership to make the changes he felt were necessary and prioritized his ideas about free speech on the platform. “Since I made my investment, I now realize that the company will not develop or meet this social imperative in its current form,” he wrote.
In a tweet on Monday, Musk said he hopes “even his worst critics” will continue to use the platform because “that’s what freedom of expression is.”
2 – Trump problem
Musk has not made a public statement on how he will address former President Donald Trump’s banned Twitter account. But his free speech comments have fueled speculation that his Twitter may reinstate Trump, who was banned from the platform last year.
After the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill, Twitter said Trump violated its policies by inciting violence among his supporters. Facebook banned Trump for the same reason.
The former president, known for his tweets criticizing the opposition and announcing policy changes from time to time, is also trying to revive his own social media site. To begin with, Truth Social has struggled to attract users, and the problem could only get worse as Musk proposes to change the content moderation rules on Twitter.

Before offering to buy Twitter, Musk expressed concerns about the platform’s relevance. When one account shared a list of the 10 most followed people on Twitter, including former President Barack Obama and pop stars Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, Musk wrote: “Many of these ‘top’ accounts rarely tweet and very little content. is publishing. .
