After many fans requested the development of the feature film, 17 years after the release of Constantine The development of the sequel film was announced with Keanu Reeves. The project was led by Francis Lawrence.

Akiva Goldsman will write the script and produce the sequel to Constantine with production company Weed Road Pictures, as well as JJ Abrams and Hannah Minghella’s Bad Robot, Deadline reported. The executive producers of the film are Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Erwin Stoff.

This announcement comes some time after Keanu Reeves himself stated that he wanted to return to the role of John Constantine.

I like to play Constantine – he said – among other things I played a lot of John. How many Johns have I done? I don’t even remember, I think more than ten. Anyway, I’d love to have the chance to play Constantine again.

The Constantine film was released in 2005, amid two other DC Comics feature films, namely Catwoman and Batman Begins, and Reeves teamed up with Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf, Djimon Hounsou, Gavin Rossdale, Peter Stormare and Tilda Swinton. From a budget of 100 million, the feature film reached 230 million box office receipts. The film can be seen on Netflix.
