Julien’s Auction was auctioning off a large number of Hollywood relics last Sunday. Among them was “ET’s first mechatronic character skeleton”. While the winner of the auction is unknown, we do know the amount he had to pay to get it. No more and no less than $2.56 million.which means approximately 2.40 million euros for a replacement.
Although we expected to meet the original hero of the film, the reality turned out to be different. When Julien’s Auction described the model as a mechatronic skeleton, they were absolutely right. This time we don’t see ET with his wrinkled brown skin. we have a skeleton that, despite belonging to such a beloved character, exudes a rather gloomy atmosphere.
The impressive structure that gave life to aliens
Before all big-budget movies used CGI, there was a rather unique technique: animatronics. Carlo Rambaldi is one of the main people responsible for the success alien.
