Although You It began as a story of a stalker able to disguise his frustrations under the idea of a romantic relationship, the series gradually mutated into something more difficult to define. Its success fueled new seasons. In each part, the story seemed to wear out little by little. Until the second part of the fourth season, released by the company Netflix suggested something new.
Joe Goldberg (ur.Penn Badgley) found in London an opportunity to manage his life after a series of murders. He did this through the personality of Jonathan Moore. However, his past is not fully revealed: from time to time a new threat arises. The most obvious is Rhys Montrose (Edward Speleers), a psychopath who appears and reminds him where he came from.
Closing of the first part of the fourth season You this left open the possibility that Joe might redeem himself by starting a new role: hunting down someone who, on the face of it, might be more dangerous than himself. Montrose was introduced as an adversary not only for the protagonist of the Netflix series, but also for the other characters that crossed paths along his path. This option was attractive. But perhaps not as much as initially thought, given its development.

The second part of the fourth season of “You” does not represent a big difference compared to the previous ones. The series gradually mutated into predictable scenarios thanks to the stories of its protagonist, Joe Goldberg. However, towards the end of this part, the character goes through phases of delirium that bring some sections of fresh air; perhaps enough to justify the above.
You: a soap opera with gadgets
Joe Goldberg he goes on looking for love or a perverted idea of it. This journey is the fourth season You, as it has already done, offers you the opportunity to build new relationships in a way that is as conflicting as it is banal and predictable. Result? A story that is presented as a psychological drama, but in its development shows a number of absurd situations.
Being so obvious, the following suspicion is legitimate: was this not an exaggeration aimed at generating social criticism, perhaps a satire? If so, then it is not entirely effective between convenience and such hypertrophied stereotypes. The clearest example of the above is presented by Adam (Luke Gage) and Lady Phoebe (Tilly the Guardian). Both form a couple marked by their social differences and various traumas such as attachment and lack of self-esteem. Their connection is maintained by fear, not healthy feelings. The latter is a trend that the series has so far failed to diversify.
In this context, the actor should be especially noted. Greg Kinnear (better impossible), because every time he appears on the scene, he convinces and adds another layer of complexity to the story: a father who is trying to support the company and, at the same time, save – from his point of view – the relationship with his daughter Katya (charlotte richie).
The twist that wasn’t like that
You left open the possibility of turning his protagonist into a sort of Dexter Morgan corny in the first part of the fourth season. However, this did not happen at all. Instead, continuing the previous comparison, Jonathan Moore added a new “dark passenger”. This figure accompanies him and helps resolve conflicts in which he, in theory, should not be immersed.
Is this a missed opportunity? There is no definitive answer to this, other than personal taste. The significance of this factor is that the character finds another with similar characteristics, thanks to which he can reflect several of his thoughts. Then the monologues characteristic of Joe Goldberg turn into fluid dialogue. This “upgrade” of the resource is valuable.
The novelty presents hallucinations of the protagonist. Something that changes the rhythm of the show. While it may be confusing, this scenario, in which Joe Goldberg jumps from one moment to the next, reconnecting with his victims and fears, works as a gesture of integration with previous seasons. On the other hand, it contributes to the formation of character: a creature that haunts the memory of each of its victims, even if it seems peaceful.
Brad in which the second part of the fourth season takes place You worth a look first. There is a feeling that if they were released in their entirety, then this aspect would work better. You he becomes strong as his character enters these phases, revealing the perversity and contradictions of his mind rather than recreating idyllic and toxic love stories.
