For some time now, Netflix has also had a curious catalog of games that a user can access from their mobile phone or tablet. However, the company intends to go even further and also extend them to a TV with a curious additional function; the ability to use a mobile as a controller.
According to developer Steve Moser, who shared the details via bloombergthe source code of the Netflix app itself exposes this feature, which, we repeat, will allow the user to open some of the platform’s own games directly from your TV.
One of the lines of code in the Netflix app also displays the message: “Your TV requires a controller to play. Do you want to use this phone as a game controller? Make sure, therefore, that it will be possible to use the smartphone itself as a remote control for the game from the TV. Unfortunately, no further information about the operation is known or, for example, it will be possible to synchronize another controller in order to play more accurately.
There’s also no word on the number of Netflix games that will be available, whether there will be TV-exclusive games, or whether those currently available for iOS or Android will be included. Another unknown detail is when and where the games will be available.
Netflix already has a wide catalog of games for iOS and Android.
Games developed by Netflix itself, remember they started appearing in 2021 on iOS (and iPadOS) and Android. They are available through separate downloads. That is, the user must access the relevant app store on their smartphone, find the title, and download the content. Mainly because neither Apple nor Google allow you to download games from other platforms outside of their stores. In order to access and play them, it is also necessary to have a Netflix account and therefore be subscribed to the platform.
The number of Netflix games has, yes, grown significantly since its launch. At the moment, over 55 titles already availableand 40 more new games are expected to be announced during this 2023.
In any case, Netflix plans to launch a cloud gaming service that will allow users to access these games from a single platform. Also, in order to compete with other similar services such as Microsoft.
