The Russian film distributor Central Partnership has developed a new cinema format. Cosmax is currently pending a patent.
The technology combines a clear and rich image, deep and detailed sound. A format with similar technical characteristics is IMAX, which stopped operating in Russia in June 2022, Vedomosti writes.
The technology was developed by the technical department of TsPSh, the cost of Cosmax did not exceed 5 million rubles. The first film to be screened in this format will be The Challenge filmed on the ISS.
Analysts say Cosmax’s popularity will depend not only on existing infrastructure, but also on the availability of content suitable for the format at the box office.
