More trouble in paradise. Marvel Studios would be willing to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang after the actor’s arrest. The rumor comes from Jeff Snyder, who is known for spreading the word about superhero and science fiction films. He commented on the podcast hot mic.
As he explained, the studio is ahead of a situation that could get much worse and are looking for an actor like Damson Idris (snowfall, Out of the wire, Black mirror) to replace Jonathan Majors. “The study is immersed in internal discussions to find possible options.” The move is like a plan of action in case the actor is found guilty of gender-based violence.
However, Jonathan Majors maintains that he is innocent, and his lawyers make claims that the 30-year-old woman who accused him has dropped the lawsuit. But the response from parts of the industry and Hollywood has not been good. The US military filmed a television advertisement featuring the actor. A few days later, directors like E. B. Allen (Rough sketch, your move, italian men) explained their experience with the majors on social media:
“There is one actor in particular, a newcomer to Hollywood, that everyone on Twitter has fallen in love with, who is actually an angry, violent and abusive person. Both personally and professionally. Every viral tweet I see makes me sick.” – Allen said in February. When it became known about Major’s arrest, the director confirmed that it was the actor.
Actor Tim Nicholas (FBI: Most Wanted, Good fight, madam secretary) also shared his bad experience with Jonathan Majors. “I’ll just say something about Jonathan Majors: people at Yale and the community in New York have known him for years. He’s a sociopath and a bully, and pretty much everyone describes him that way.” It’s a shame it took so long for charges to be filed.”
Marvel and Disney are also turning down the actor. On the cover of the digital edition Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Maniahis face does not appear, only Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.
The Importance of Jonathan Majors as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
After the success of the first three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thanos as a nemesis to defeat, they set about looking for a new actor to be present for the next three phases. Especially since Josh Brolin wasn’t always the Mad Titan. In his first appearance, during one of the post-credits scenes Avengers (2012) played by Damion Poitier.
The idea with Jonathan Majors is to build Kang on various TV shows and movies, making sure the right actor plays him. This character is so important that one of the Avengers movies bears his name.
The actor’s departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be another blow than the many the franchise has taken in the past two years. But this situation can be salvaged: after all, part of Kang’s dilemma is his thousands of variants in the Multiverse. So technically the most dangerous version of a character can look completely different when played by a different actor.
There are no official announcements from Marvel/Disney or representatives from Jonathan Majors at this time. His next appearance would theoretically be in the series’ second season. Loki.
