The Fantastic Beasts series is currently on hiatus. Nor is it clear what relationship author JK Rowling has with WB Discovery, following her absence from the special regarding the classic movie saga’s reunion (for which there’s an excuse, true or not) and the various controversies she’s faced . in recent years regarding her controversial stances on a number of issues, particularly on the LGBTQ+ front. The fact is that the contribution of the same would theoretically be fundamental to the saga, which she co-wrote.
However, it is clear that the original project did not go as planned and even if you really want to continue, there is no direction in which to focus, not even just plot-wise, and the protagonists themselves know nothing about any future news. . In addition, without counting the further problems due to two actors in the saga: Johnny Depp and Ezra Miller: the first was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen for the third film due to the legal dispute with his ex-wife Amber Heard, the second he is still plunged into a complex and surreal situation of trouble with the law for non-compliant behavior and blocks the movie The Flash in which he stars. However, his role in the “magic” series was greatly reduced in the third chapter compared to original expectations.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child… and possible reboots
Sooner or later, the classic series will undergo a remake, perhaps on television: let’s see in the perspective that it will be inevitable, but it is still too early. The public is too fond of the original interpreters to welcome a reboot, however good: sooner or later it will come anyway, even if it is fifteen or twenty years from now.
To tell more about the events directly involving the “boy who survived” there would be Cursed Child, the official sequel, however, designed for the theater, which Rowling herself promised and perjured that it will never reach the cinemas. the WB producers would certainly be in favour. Perhaps the same theatrical version, with a special television direction? An animated conversion? Could be. The same director of the first two movies of the movie saga, Chris Columbus, said he might be available.
The spinoffs
What was never made, though it would have been relatively easy to produce, is one or more TV series set in the Wizarding World. This possibility has been talked about for decades, also nurtured by the previous CEO of WB Ann Sarnoff, but nothing has actually been put into production or simply announced so far. The ideas on the spin-off front, in WB, are certainly not lacking: DC properties have been going on for years with different take on the Batman and Superman (and the Justice League) universes, in particular, while the Harry Potter- video games with more or less canonical spin-offs are often considered… or at least plausible, such as Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and the highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy, not to mention Harry Potter : Magic Awakened.
So it’s a prequel set in the 80s, a sequel set in the present, and a prequel set two hundred years ago. It would suffice just to rework the stories… but there are certainly other possibilities: fan projects have been circulating for years that, if taken up in a professional manner, could interest the general public, such as a prequel to the Marauders’ years at Hogwarts, or a detective procedural set in a garrison Auror.
