The ‘Batman Arkham’ video game saga marked a very high point in the genre played by superheroes. In fact, parts of its mechanics have been collected in other titles like ‘Marvel’s Spiderman’.

That’s why the new ‘Gotham Knights’ attracted great interest from players. While it takes a lot from its predecessor, it cannot fill the void it left behind.

His story is exciting. We start by seeing Batman go head-to-head with Ra’s Al Ghul, unfortunately until he dies. Given this scenario, as expected, all the criminal gangs in Gotham City are fighting for territories and businesses.

This is where the masked man must honor the legacy of his four disciples and restore order: Batgirl, Red Hood, Nightwing, and Robin. All are playable characters with unique traits and moves, offering variety in the way you complete missions and take down bad guys.

The combat system is similar to that in the Arkham saga: chains of hits with acrobatic moves that let you dodge enemy attacks. But it doesn’t feel as fluid and versatile as Batman’s, in fact it feels slow and ineffective.

This also extends to the means of transport in the city. Regardless of whether you use hooks, gliders or ‘Batcycles’, the action feels slow and makes you less interested in navigating the city to avoid crimes and interrogate criminals.

Regarding combat, the character progression tree is short, although it provides interesting abilities to diversify the fight. However, this can be a bit frustrating, especially early in the game, as enemies don’t even shy away from the beatings they’ve been given, regardless of weapons and power of blows.

Perhaps one of the biggest sins of this game is trying to apply the Arkham formula to please the fans even though it failed. However, he was spared the story proposition, the possibility of using new characters, customizing them with different costumes and vehicles, and walking the streets of Gotham City with the goal of eliminating the petty crime going on.
