Today May 10, 2022 An American computer hardware company has unveiled its new video cards designed for gaming. They replace the current RX 6000, but you will understand from the name that AMD’s idea is to update existing models, not to revolutionize them.

As with previous generations, AMD has chosen to call its new GPUs RX 6050. That is, we did not jump to the 7000 generation, but remained in 6000, but improved. And the prices were leaked a week ago, so that’s not surprising either.

We’re going to see what models AMD has today as they only showed us three charts, the RX 6950 for the high range, the RX 6750 for the mid/high range, and the RX 6650 for the mid range.

  • RX6950XT: This is the top of the range, allowing you to play in 4K with 16 GB of video memory. It has 80 computing units with Lightning accelerators and a clock speed of 2100 MHz. Its price is 1099 dollars.
  • RX6750XT: this is the recommended model for optimal playback at 1440 pixels (or 2K as it’s commonly called) and it has 12 GB of video memory. It has 40 compute units with Lightning accelerators and a clock speed of 2495 MHz. Its price is 549 dollars.
  • RX6650XT: this is the input model to play at 1080px resolution. It has 8GB of RAM, 32 Lightning-powered compute units, and a clock speed of 2410MHz. Its starting price is $399.

Equivalence with NVIDIA and the Golden Opportunity

For those who control the NVIDA market but not AMD: RX 6950 XT will compete with RTX 3090; RX 6750 XT will compete with RTX 3070 and RTX 3070 Ti; and the RX 6650 XT will benefit from the best-selling RTX 3060.

If this turns out to be the case, all gamers will be in luck, as it would be great if the GPU market refreshed after two years without stocks and without new graphics cards. And if the recommended prices remain in place, AMD will be able to beat NVIDIA for the first time in many years.

Right now, NVIDIA has an idea to release the RTX 4000 by the end of this year, while AMD launched its new generation (or intergenerational) today, and according to its data, the RX 6050 XT is upping the competition.

Moreover, in combination with AMD processors such as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D allow for what’s called “intelligent memory access” which further optimizes graphics performance. Classic AMD synergies are making a comeback, though their effectiveness has never convinced the general public.

Improved consumption, the key to a new generation

Another key focus of AMD’s new generation is consumption. Since Ryzen and RDNA came into the company, AMD has been able to launch products with greater efficiency than its counterparts from Intel and NVIDIA.

According to the AMD table, The RX 6950 XT consumes around 335W TDP while its rival RTX 3090 consumes up to 350W.. In other words, we would have higher productivity with better consumption, which is a big achievement for a red company.

As for the RX 6750 XT, we’re talking 250W compared to 220W, which the RTX 3070 sucks, and the same goes for the RX 6650 XT, which requires 180W compared to the RTX 3060’s 170W. In turn, in both cases, AMD graphics provide higher FPS performance.

This makes us think that RDNA 2 managed to increase efficiency, not power. Thus, by slightly increasing the power consumption, the RX 6050 was able to outperform its NVIDIA competitors in FPS. This small jump in efficiency is characteristic of intergenerational change.

Improvements in manufacturing processes mean that the chip draws less watts, allowing for process optimization and higher power through a slight increase in TDP. Now, with equal consumption, the RX 6050 XT is more powerful than NVIDIA graphics. According to data provided by an American company.

Improved drivers and compatibility with new technologies

And since AMD has very good developers, from the company they promised an update to their drivers that will improve the overall performance some of the most important games of the moment.

AMD Adrenalin drivers will be updated to version 21.50 and will bring performance improvements. which will be especially noticeable on the RX6950 XT and in games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 (in Ultra, with DX12, the improvement will be 5%) and up to 13% in Forza Horizon 5, at the ultimate level of detail and DX12.

At all, in new generation technologies (DLSS, Raytracing…) at AMD they are a couple of steps behind NVIDIA, and it doesn’t look like this generational leap will bring us real improvements in those areas.significantly improved drivers.

For all these improvements, we will most likely have to wait for the RX 7000 with RDNA 3, where the new hardware architecture provides all the compatibility that NVIDIA currently provides with its AI and Tensor Cores.
